Eschewing animal products means not contributing to social and environmental injustices such as global warming, deforestation, pollution, indigenous peoples being kicked off their land and the whole animal cruelty bit.
Learning that agribusiness contributes to 18% of greenhouse gases was enough to set me on the path to eating vegan. With today’s politics and in today’s economy, money is power. I refuse to give more power to those who are helping to destroy the planet. For me, it’s as simple as that.
Having become vegan I’ve discovered agribusiness does more that just produce noxious gases. Turning people out of their land in the Amazon, deforestation for land to grow crops to feed animals on, waste being pumped into water supplies. Oh yeah, and there’s that video of baby chicks being ground up makes good teevee too.
Purchase almost any animal product and you donate to these kinds of injustices.
When it’s put like that, is it really a choice?
